SEP Meeting held in Dubrovnik
The SEP Meeting was held in Dubrovnik from 16th to 18th March 2005 in hotel "Uvala". It was a working-social gathering of South-European pilots, members of EMPA, which is held each year before the annual EMPA General Meeting. The delegates participating in the gathering were accompanied by their spouses.
The meeting was attended by: Bulgaria 2 delegates, France 3, Greece 2, Italy 3, Malta 1, Slovenia 2, Spain 2, Turkey 2, and by IMPA’s Secretary General, Mr. Nick Cutmore. Only the Portuguese delegates were prevented from attending. Croatia was represented by: 1 delegate from Pula, 4 from Rijeka, 2 from Ploče and 3 delegates from Dubrovnik.
Cap. Mario Babić, Assistant Minister, expressing his personal satisfaction, participated in the meeting the first day and made a welcoming speech with special reference to the Ministry’s affirmative attitude towards pilotage.
In addition to the delegates, the welcoming party was attended by representatives of the town of Dubrovnik, the Port Authority, the Port Administration, and on occasion of the opening of the meting, the delegates were addressed - in addition to Capt.Babić, by representatives of the town and of Port authorities.
The topics on the agenda were:
- EMPA activities in the European Parliament concerning the exclusion of pilotage services from market competition.
- IMPA work in IMO, as well as their work at world level against pilotage as a profit and market activity, but rather as an activity in function of navigation safety.
- Reports of the member states about the work accomplished between the two meetings.
- Preparations for the EMPA GM to be held in Poland, scheduled from 1st to 3rd June 2005 – appointments and election of the new President, three co-presidents, and a new Secretary General.
It was concluded that the meeting as well as the other activities had been organized and carried out successfully and at satisfaction of all parties involved.
